About Angel

Angel Trazo (she/they) is a second generation Filipina American artist and scholar from the Bay Area. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Ethnic Studies at Sacramento City Collge. She received her PhD in Cultural Studies from UC Davis and her MA in Asian American Studies from UCLA. She graduated with a Bachelor's in Biology and Studio Art from Colgate University. Her current research focuses on Asian American social media, popular culture, and youth cultures, specifically the Asian Baby Girl (ABG) subculture.

Her scholarship has been published in Intersections: Critical Issues in Education, Amerasia Journal, and Alon: Journal of Filipinx American and Diasporic Studies and her comics have been published in ASAP/Journal and Modern Language Studies.

Angel is the author and illustrator of the children's book We Are Inspiring: The Stories of 32 Inspirational Asian American Women (2019), her debut children's book which she self-published. She is also the illustrator of A Father's Love (2023) and Vanessa Unmuted (2021). She has been commissioned to create illustrations, mini comics, and visual notes for clients including the Center for Asian American Media, PBS, and colleges across America. Angel was also a 2025 Helen Toribio Kapwa Fellow at the Mesa Refuge and part of Kearny Street Workshop's 2021 Interdisciplinary Writers Lab (IWL) cohort.

As a graduate student, Angel was a 2025 Professors for the Future Fellow and founded Kasamas at UC Davis, a support group for Fil Am graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Angel served as the Student Manager for Communications for the Bulosan Center for Filipinx Studies and the Layout Designer for Alon: Journal for Filipinx American and Diasporic Studies (2021-2023). Angel also worked as Communications Lead for the Feminist Research Institute (2023-2024) and the Pantry Assistant of the UC Davis Graduate Student Pantry (2023-2025). When not working her multiple jobs to avoid being rent burdened as a grad student, Angel had the time of her life getting insane gains at the UC Davis gym (ARC) and hanging out with friends at Hart Hall, boba shops, and Delta of Venus.
