About Angel
Angel Trazo (she/her) is a second generation Filipina American artist and scholar from the Bay Area. She is currently a PhD candidate in Cultural Studies at UC Davis. She received her MA in Asian American Studies from UCLA and her Bachelor's in Biology and Studio Art from Colgate University. Her current research focuses on Asian American social media, popular culture, and youth cultures, specifically the Asian Baby Girl (ABG) subculture. Take her ABG Survey here.
She is the author and illustrator of the children's book We Are Inspiring: The Stories of 32 Inspirational Asian American Women (2019) and the illustrator of Vanessa Unmuted (2021) and A Father's Love (2023). Her scholarship has been published in Intersections: Critical Issues in Education and Amerasia Journal and her comics have been published in ASAP/Journal and Modern Language Studies. She has been commissioned to do visual notes and illustrations for clients including the Center for Asian American Media and PBS.
Angel is currently a Graduate Student Reseracher for the Feminist Research Institute at UC Davis. Angel is also part of the Anti-Asian Violence: Origins and Trajectories Research Institute. Previously, Angel served as the Student Manager for Communications for the Bulosan Center for Filipinx Studies and the Layout Designer for Alon: Journal for Filipinx American and Diasporic Studies (2021-2023).
